I’d like to take a moment to express my Chinese New Year wishes to all of you awesome English teachers! May you work towards your ambitions and have a great adventure along the way. For happiness is found in the journey, not the destination. Here follows some thoughts for the coming year.
Year of the Monkey 2016
We have now entered…. the year of the monkey!
A great year for teachers, I think, as monkeys are clever, curious, jokers, go-getters, kind, helpful and… pretty naughty. Quite good characteristics for a teacher, no?
This year I wish you to succeed in your teaching career, to enrich the lives of your students, to use your passion and creativity and to achieve all the goals you have set.
My goal is to help you with this by posting a new blog at least once every two weeks. So keep checking out this site for I will provide you with the most detailed info for awesome classes!
Chinese New Year wishes
Gōngzhù jiànkāng, xìngyùn, xīnnián kuàilè.
Good health, good luck and a happy year.
Happy new year!
Everyone’s typical new year wish. Everybody wants to be happy, but do you know what truly brings happiness? Many people mistake being comfortable with being happy. Most people avoid the thing that would free them. Most people live within the confines of their comfort zone. The best thing you can do for yourself is to regularly move beyond it. Get out of your comfort zone and you will feel great about yourself. You know, people grow the most when they enter the Zone of the Unknown. When you dare to get out of your circle of comfort and explore the unknown, you start to liberate your true human potential.
If you’re interested in teaching English abroad, just go for it! Don’t think about all the cons, think about the amazing experience you will get. Positive experiences, but negative ones as well of course. That’s life. All this makes you richer as a person.
I never saw myself living in China, teaching English to classes of 30 Chinese kids with 60 parents watching during open classes, or co-hosting the graduation ceremony with 600 attendees, but I’m so happy I did all of it. I see building my life and teaching career in China from scratch as one of my biggest achievements so far. Achievements (material, emotional, physical, spiritual) are a major source of happiness.
Lasting happiness comes from steadily working to accomplish your goals and advancing confidently in the direction of your life’s purpose. The purpose of life is a life of purpose. A life of purpose is a life that serves others. When you work to improve the lives of others, you indirectly elevate your own life in the process. There ya go, all your questions about life answered, haha.
In China they have a nice proverb for this:
“A little bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives you roses.”
That’s why being a teacher is so great; you never stop growing and improving yourself. For everything you try in class you will get direct feedback from your students. You can see what works, and what doesn’t. You’re learning from them and they are learning ( hopefully ) from you. Your contribution goes much further than just the English language you teach them, you have the power to inspire!
Give them your time, your attention and your energy: these truly are your two most valuable resources.
What you give in life, you get to keep
What you fail to give, you lose forever.
Good luck for the new year!
Another one of those general new year wishes. Everyone wants to get lucky, but what is luck? Winning the jackpot in the national lottery? There’s almost no chance. But here’s the good news: there’s a way to attract luck.
Luck = preparation + opportunity.
Do all you can to prepare and develop yourself. Then, good luck can be enticed by accepting opportunity. Recognize opportunity when it comes and take ACTION! Have the determination to follow through. You have to overcome the spirit of procrastination that is within us all. Become highly productive.
Alright, that’s enough for my Chinese New Year wishes for now. Please remember: Don’t settle for less than you can be. Set high standards. Give your all.
Happy Chinese New Year!! 2016 Jiayou!! Go go go!
